ASSOCIATE CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR (3771)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the contract administration, materials testing, and technical inspection of the construction and maintenance of roads, airports, bridges, sewers, drains, and related public works. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   This class is the journey level of the Construction Inspection series. Incumbents of this class perform contract administration, materials testing, and construction inspection work on public or private contracts under the general supervision of a Senior Construction Inspector or a Principal Construction Inspector. This class differs from the next higher class of Senior Construction Inspector in that incumbents of the latter class may supervise an inspection unit and perform contract administration, materials testing, and construction inspection.

Education
   Completion of high school.

Experience
  Four (4) years of increasingly responsible sub-professional engineering work, including two (2) years at a level equivalent to an Engineering Technician II in the City of San Jose.

Allowable Substitutions
   Completion of an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or closely related field from an accredited junior college or two (2) years of college engineering courses (60 semester/90 quarter units) may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
