CLASS SUMMARY:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and
Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or
university in advertising, marketing, public relations, or a closely related
field and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional marketing or
public relations experience.
Licensing
Requirements
Valid
California Driver’s License may be required.
Minimum

Knowledge of
modern marketing, advertising and public relations techniques, and promotional
events planning.
Knowledge of
writing and editing techniques for a variety of audiences.
Knowledge of
the principles of supervision.
Knowledge of
organizations and resources relative to services provided by department.
Ability to
use desktop publishing and printing techniques.
Ability to
express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to
develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of public
and private agencies, organizations and vendors.
Ability to
organize multiple tasks simultaneously.
Knowledge of
survey and research and analysis methodology and techniques.
Desirable
Qualifications (likely to contribute to more successful job performance; can

Writing
professionally for media relation documents.
Familiar
with Web-based media.
Knowledge of
the City’s practices and procedures, including purchasing, financial
management and personnel administration.
Knowledge of
the City’s goals and policies toward planned growth and economic development.
Ability to
use existing computer software programs and to learn new applications as
changing technology and procedures require.

Plans and implements marketing and promotion of a City program, and assists in the management of related budgets. |

Develops, writes, edits and produces promotional
materials to create public awareness of programs; may include development
and maintenance of websites or determining content for website. |

Responds orally or in writing to inquiries and provides information for the public on services, facilities and programs. |

Makes daily work assignments for support staff and assists them in carrying out these duties. |

Provides creative writing and other technical assistance for a variety of collateral materials including news releases, brochures and Audio/Video scripts; designs and produces such materials using desktop publishing techniques. |

Conducts, or monitors vendors who conduct, public opinion surveys
and market analyses to identify existing and potential markets and target
audiences.
