CLASS PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs professional and technical work of moderate difficulty involving the qualitative and quantitative biological, chemical and physical analyses of water, wastewater, industrial waste and related materials. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an entry level professional class where incumbents perform, under general supervision, work of moderate difficulty related to qualitative and quantitative laboratory determinations upon water, wastewater, industrial waste and related materials. This class is distinguished from the Laboratory Technician series by having supervisory responsibility over the Laboratory Technicians and oversees the daily operation of the laboratory. Positions in this class are responsible for performing the more complicated and research related biological, chemical and physical testing requirements.

Training And Experience

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science, environmental chemistry or related discipline, plus two years experience working in a laboratory environment.
