OPEN WATER LIFEGUARD (P/T) (6144)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the protection of life and the providing of safe open water swimming and recreation conditions in a City operated open water area.
Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   Incumbents of this class function as lifeguards performing recovery and rescue operations in an open water lake environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
   Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Competency Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
   Ability to prepare routine written reports.

Education
   Completion of high school or possession of a General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate or California Proficiency Certificate.

Experience
   Three hundred (300) hours experience as a lifeguard.

Acceptable Substitutions
   None.

Licenses/Certificates
   Possession of First Aid Title 22 Certificate, CPR for Professional Rescuer, and lifeguard certification.

Special Requirement
   Prior to hire, sign a declaration that any awareness of child abuse will be reported as required by Cal. P.C. 1166.5.
