ASSISTANT SWIMMING POOL MANAGER (PT) (6145)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in participating in the management and supervisory function of a City-operated swimming pool facility. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Participates with the Swimming Pool Manager in the planning, organizing, and direction of recreational swimming and swim instruction programs.
Participates in the supervision of lifeguard and other pool personnel.
Participates in the in-service training program for all personnel covering policies and procedures of the City and safety responsibilities of the pool operation.
Performs the duties of a lifeguard whenever necessary.
Participates in the management of a swimming pool facility, including the establishment of necessary procedures for the collection of fees, preparing attendance reports, accident reports, and other routine financial reports on a regular basis.
Prepares work schedules and assignments as delegated by the Swimming Pool Manager.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents of this class participate with the Swimming Pool Manager in the management and supervision of a City-operated swimming pool facility. Incumbents of this class supervise other pool personnel in the absence of the Swimming Pool Manager. Incumbents of this class may perform
life guarding activities and may instruct in all categories of swimming classes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of swimming techniques and lifesaving.
Knowledge of swimming pool hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of public recreation as they relate to swimming pool operation.
Knowledge of swimming instruction methods.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of first aid and artificial respiration.
Ability to train and supervise personnel engaged in swimming pool operations.
Ability to instruct classes in swimming.
Ability to maintain effective public relations.
Competency Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles of supervision.
Knowledge of financial recordkeeping.
Ability to prepare reports.
Education
Completion of high school or possession of General Educational Development (GED) Certificate or California Proficiency Certificate.
Experience
Two (2) full seasons (approximately 760 hours) of work in swimming pool management,
life guarding, swimming instruction, or related activity.
Acceptable Substitutions
None.
Licenses/Certificates
Possession of current certificate indicating successful completion of an approved course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer (CPR/FPR) as prescribed by the American Red Cross or as prescribed by the American Heart Association; B.C.L.S. – C with a completion date less than one year old at the time of appointment.
Possession of a current Lifeguard Training Certificate.
Possession of current certificate in First Aid, as prescribed by the State Department of Health, at the time of appointment.
Possession of current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor’s Authorization Certificate (WSI).
