RECREATION SUPERVISOR PT (7132)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under direction, performs work of moderate difficulty, with responsibility for a comprehensive recreational and community services program in a large geographic area, target City wide programs or special events and activities which may include outreach responsibilities and/or complex programming for elementary, youth, adult and gerontology services. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   An employee in this class is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising comprehensive recreation and community services programs in a large geographic area consisting of a number of community service areas. This class differs from the classes of Youth Specialist, Gerontology Specialist and Therapeutic Specialist in that incumbents of those classes are concerned with a specific community service area with programs targeted for specialized populations. This class differs from that of Recreation Program Coordinator in that incumbents of the latter class are concerned with a specific community center, targeted City-wide programs, or special events and activities. This class differs from the next higher class of Principal Recreation Supervisor in that incumbents of the later supervise community services within a major specialty area or a major comprehensive City-wide recreation program.

Training and Experience
   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion of advanced undergraduate course work from an accredited college or university in Recreation and Leisure studies, Physical Education, or closely related field, plus two (2) years of recreation programming experience. There may be no substitution of education for the required experience.

Licenses/Certificates
   As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
