CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general supervision, acts as a team leader in providing specialized services to youth such as youth employment, delinquency prevention and intervention and gang intervention, diversion and mediation. Performs related administrative and supervision functions necessary to lead a team.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   This class is the second level of three in the Youth Outreach series and is responsible for leading, organizing, and coordinating the activities of a team performing outreach and referral services in the fields of human and social services. The team may be comprised of Youth Outreach Worker I and other service agency personnel. The class differs from the next lower class of Youth Outreach Worker I in that it requires team leadership, service coordination, planning, and conducting employee training. Youth Outreach Worker II differs from the next higher class of Youth Outreach Specialist in that incumbents of the latter supervise the former and are responsible for a major component of City-wide youth services programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education
   Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience
   Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in working with at-risk youth to provide intervention, diversion or employment services and programs.

Acceptable Substitutions
   Advanced undergraduate education in Social Services or closely related field may be substituted for up to a maximum of one year of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses/Certificates
   Must possess a valid California Drivers License and may be required to obtain and maintain a Class B California Drivers License.
