Green Building Rating Systems
The City of San José has adopted the following two third-party green building rating systems as reference standards in its green building policies and ordinance:
LEED Rating System
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization founded in 1993 with a vision of creating a sustainable built environment within a generation. Its membership includes corporations, builders, universities, government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations. USGBC is dedicated to expanding green building practices and education, and its LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™. This internationally recognized rating system provides a consistent way to document the sustainable design methods, materials, energy systems and construction practices that must be incorporated into projects seeking certification.
GreenPoint Rated Rating System
Build It Green is a California-based non-profit green building certification organization that primarily focuses on the design and construction of sustainable single- and multi-family homes. The GreenPoint Rated Rating System provides a consistent way for those designing, building or renovating one or more homes to document the sustainable design methods, materials, energy systems and construction practices that must be incorporated into GreenPoint Rated projects. |
