Indoor Environmental Quality | Innovation & Design Process

The USGBC recognizes design teams may develop innovative solutions and achieve performance above requirements indicated in the LEED Rating System and/or in areas not addressed by the LEED Rating System. Teams may apply for extra points for these innovative design approaches through the innovation and design process. For more detailed information on LEED requirements, please refer to the USGBC’s LEED Rating System.

  1. Innovation in Design – Receive points for exceeding LEED rating system requirements and/or innovative performance in areas not addressed by LEED Rating System. Teams can submit documentation to apply for a total of four points.
    1. Identify intent, requirement for compliance, required submittals, and design approach. (1-4 points)
  2. LEED Accredited Professional – at least one principal participant of project team has successfully completed LEED Accredited Professional exam. (1 point)
