Steering Committee | Workgroup | Taskforce

The Green Building Taskforce is a high-level, “green ribbon” task force appointed by the Mayor and comprised of key building, housing and community stakeholders identified and nominated by the community and key city departments. Final recommendations for the members of this group came from the Housing, the Environmental Services, and the Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Departments who also sit on the Taskforce. The Taskforce had two meetings to review issues and recommendations as prepared by the Workgroup and prepare final recommendations for City Council.

The first meeting of the Green Building Taskforce was held on January 14, 2000. Twenty-five representatives from the buildings and construction trades industry, real estate, end-users, architects, utilities and environmental groups provided their input to the draft recommendations as prepared by the Workgroup. A final meeting to review the Green Building Report was held February 4, 2000.

Significant strides have been made in the Green Building Program since Council directed staff on April 4, 2000, to continue to work with the members of the Green Building Taskforce, Workgroup and other City Departments. Staff met the goal to implement the Green Building Recommendations and report back to Council within one year. As part of the Council-adopted program, recommendations were made regarding green building guidelines for the City of San Jose. A status report on the educational activities of the Green Building Program was submitted to the Council on October 25, 2000. Within the City, the Green Building Program has the assistance of the Department of Public Works; Planning, Building and Code Enforcement; Housing; Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services; Finance; General Services; Library; and the Redevelopment Agency.
