The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Solar America Cities grant funds to the City of San José for seven solar projects – the largest number awarded to any city in the nation.
Governor Schwarzenegger announced the City of San José has won the 2009 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) for its Zero Waste Events Program. GEELA is California's highest and most prestigious environmental honor.

Free tours showcasing the science and technology behind the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant are available on the first and third Thursdays of each month, 10:00 a.m. to noon, and the first and third Saturdays 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., now through October.
Residents can now check out free energy meters from several San José public libraries to evaluate their energy use beginning July 20. The San José City Council has moved San José closer to becoming 100 percent energy independent by authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop guidelines and potential lease terms for the development of an organics-to-energy biogas facility on a 40-acre site near the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant.
Residents are invited this May 16 to tour the Plant and participate in a workshop where they can learn about a master planning process that could turn this facility into a regional asset and world-class showcase of the unique South Bay shoreline.
