Watershed Stewardship – Get involved!!
Protecting our environment may seem like too be a job for any one person. Not true! When water pollution comes from countless tiny sources, countless tiny positive steps add up to big water quality protections. Here are some simple – and fun! – things you, your family, your business, and your community can do to prevent pollution and enjoy our unique and wonderful watershed
In your home
- Properly dispose of mercury-containing fluorescent bulbs for free at select hardware stores in Santa Clara Valley. Visit hhw.org to find one near you.
- Avoid using toxic products—look for non-toxic alternatives.
- Plastics are a significant pollutant of our oceans. Use reusable cloth or canvas bags instead of plastic when you shop. Remember: they’re not just for groceries!
- Conserve water! Water conservation saves money, saves our most valuable
resource, and protects our South Bay wetlands.
Around your home and work
- Sweep up any residue left on the street, driveway, or parking lot after your trash & recyclables pick-up day.
- Need advice for pesky pest problems? Get free and timely advice from the experts at Our Water Our World.
- Instead of washing your car on the driveway where all the dirt, soap, brake dust, and oil will wash into our stormdrains and creeks, take your car to a commercial carwash, where the water is properly treated. Check out www.MyWatershedWatch.org for
weekly half off car wash events.
- Dispose of hazardous wastes for free with the County’s Household Hazardous Waste Program.
