Repairing Leaks
If your water bill suddenly increases, but you haven't
changed the way you use water, chances are you've sprung a leak. Leaky
plumbing can waste several gallons of water a day. Even tiny pinhole drips
that often go unnoticed add up fast.
Reading Your Water Meter
It's good preventive maintenance to conduct a leak check of your house
once or twice a year. It is easily done by:
- Turn off all water--inside and outside.
- Read your meter. Mark where the sweep hand (straight reading meter)
or 'ONE FOOT' hand (round reading meter) is on your meter.
- Wait 15 to 20 minutes and see if the hand has moved.
- If the hand has moved and you haven't used any water, you probably
have a leak.
