GIS Applications

The City of San José uses GIS as a computerized database that combines and filters layer of information about a place to give you a better understanding of that place. The information analyzed depends on the need --> responding to emergencies, providing better designs or maintenance, locating a fire station or park, analyzing environmental damage, viewing similar crime reports to detect patterns and even used in identifying potential claims due to sewer backups.

GIS Applications and Resources currently available on the City's internet website:

• eMap - Access the City's mapbook layers (Streets, Parcels, and Sanitary and Storm utility maps)
• gMap - Download the City's maps in geoPDF format (PDF map files with GIS functionality)
• Capital Project Management System - Look up information on Capital Improvement Projects for the City through a map interface
• City of San José Online Permits - Allows citizens and development customers to obtain a variety of information regarding proposed development for properties within the City of San Jose
• Redevelopment Agency - View redevelpoment project areas, downtown walking maps, and Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI) area maps
• Dept. of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Maps/Data - View the City's zoning map, neighborhood boundaries map, historic resources map and more
• Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Maps/Data - View trail maps and information about Parks
• Transportation Department - View parking maps and learn about traffic programs
