CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate
difficulty involving a variety of accounting, arithmetic
calculations and clerical duties. Performs related work as
required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not
include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the
duties which may be performed.)

Reviews, posts and balances ledgers and other documents;
processes and reviews revenues; reviews and balances petty cash
and/or change funds.

Conducts and maintains inventories of stores, equipment and
supplies.

Compiles and processes payments and/or requisitions for
various financial transactions; assigns payments to cost centers.

Prepares worksheets, financial charges and invoices, issues
and maintains records of parking permits.

Prepares special checks.

Summarizes data and prepares reports; prepares routine
correspondence.

Prepares and inputs data into computer terminals.

Prepares payroll and serves as department timekeeper.

Operates a variety of office machines such as typewriter,
calculator, cash register, and computer terminal.

May serve as lead worker as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class differs from Account Clerk II in that an incumbent
of the latter performs more routine work under closer
supervision. It differs from Principal Account Clerk in that
incumbents of the latter supervise Account Clerks I and II and
perform work of greater complexity and scope.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of bookkeeping, office practices, business practices
and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic accounting clerical practices.
- Ability to learn new bookkeeping routines.
- Ability to operate calculators and adding machines. Ability to
type at 35 net words per minute.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to use computers for word processing and spreadsheet
applications.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to evaluate the work of other employees.
- Ability to
lead and train other employees.
- Ability to operate a computer
terminal including the creations and maintenance of word
processing and spreadsheet applications.
Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to
completion of high school, and two years of bookkeeping or
accounting clerical work.
