PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT CLERK (1223)

CLASS PURPOSE

  Under general supervision, performs accounting clerical work of considerable difficulty in the supervision and maintenance of a segment of the City's total financial system. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   Principal Account Clerks usually supervise, but always serve as the consolidation point for a variety of inputs. This class differs from Senior Account Clerk in that incumbents of the latter perform duties of lesser scope and complexity. This class differs from the next higher class of Accounting Technician in that the latter serves as the accounting clerical focal position for a major or citywide financial system.

Education

   Successful completion of high school, General Educational Development (GED) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate.

Experience

   Three (3) years of accounting clerical experience, including one (1) year in the performance of complex accounting clerical functions at the level of Senior Account Clerk with the City of San Jose.
