DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF FINANCE, ACCOUNTING (1254)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under general direction, performs work of unusual difficulty by directing and controlling the City's centralized accounting system and issuing full disclosure reports on the financial status and conduct of the City. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   This single position class in the Fiscal Management series reports to the Director of Finance. The incumbent is responsible for the financial accounting of all money received and disbursed by the City, and for substantiation of the City's position through financial records which are audited by outside auditors.

   Typical End Results Include: Ensures that the City's funds are fully recorded and that expenditures are properly authorized; assures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in all accounting operations; ensures the integrity of fiscal management systems; develops accounting procedures which accurately reflect the City's financial situation and substantiate all fiscal transactions.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of advanced undergraduate course work in accounting or business or related field from an accredited college or university; at least 18 semester units of accounting, including governmental accounting, and seven (7) years in fiscal management, including two years of supervising professional accountants. A Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
