INSURANCE ANALYST (1261)
CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Identifies and evaluates the City's exposure to risk and liability.
Takes initiative in analyzing the City's insurance needs; preparing insurance specifications; reviewing bids for and negotiating with insurance brokers; purchasing liability or surety and property insurance; preparing the budget for insurance programs, including expenditures for insurance.
Reviews insurance submittals to assure that contractor-caused losses are covered by insurance to prevent City liability.
Monitors claims and settlements and participates with the City Attorney's Office in the preparation of litigation.
Supervises other insurance staff.
Typical End Results Include: Transfer the City's liability risk in an appropriate manner. Increase awareness on the City's part when the City is retaining risk.
Reduce the City's insurance costs. Protect the City from uninsured financial loss.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of principles of insurance, including types of insurance,
insuring agreements, underwriting and brokerage methods.
Knowledge of governmental operations, statistical and financial analysis.
Knowledge of administration of safety programs.
Knowledge of the commercial insurance market.
Knowledge of the principles of risk avoidance and risk transfer.
Ability to prepare insurance specification proposals and comprehensive reports.
Ability to analyze and interpret laws, ordinances, regulations, and contracts.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the City's experience with liability.
Knowledge of the City's insurance program, Workers' Compensation Program and Safety Program.
Knowledge of insurance underwriting and sales.
Knowledge of the insurance industry as it relates to municipal liability, surety and property protection.
