GEOGRAPHIC SYSTEMS SPECIALIST II (1383)
CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Operates and maintains various types of geographic information system workstations including alphanumeric terminals, digitizers, menu tablets, plotters and micro computers.
Develops and/or modifies geographic information or forecast modeling application software and related sub-system application software.
Maintains the computerized traffic forecast model's network database and documents significant changes to this database.
Interprets recorded plans to enter graphic and attribute data into a graphic information system.
Identifies system problems by employing hardware and software diagnostic utilities and methodologies.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of algebra, trigonometry and analytic geometry.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of geographic information systems or computerized traffic forecast modeling.
Ability to think logically and follow detailed instructions.
Ability to solve problems in a logical manner.
Ability to organize projects, understand project goals and manage time effectively.
Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
Ability to use specialized computer system application software.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of topologically structured data for spatial analysis.
Ability to assess and understand user needs and to develop the necessary software and/or reports to meet those needs.
Ability to write or modify computer programs of average difficulty.
Some positions may also require the ability to write or modify computer programs of moderate difficulty to produce reports, maps and/or data models.
