CLASS PURPOSE

            Under general supervision within the Information Technology Department, is responsible for work of considerable difficulty in configuring, installing, operating and maintaining the City’s local area and wide area network and coordinating the provision of a variety of information systems data that may include the evaluation, planning, design and implementation of existing and new systems for multi-use, each having specific individual or competing requirements or integrated functions.  Performs related administrative and supervisory work as required.

  DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

            This is the third level in the Enterprise Network Technician series and is responsible for the coordinating, configuring, installing and maintaining of the City’s large local and wide area networks.  The incumbent is a generalist, but is expected to be aware of and utilize expert technical resources such as those provided by the Information Technology Department, vendors, and other similar sources.

            This class differs from the Automated Systems Coordinator in that the latter performs work of considerable difficulty in the development, operation, maintenance and coordination of a complex, integrated system in a department requiring a broad general knowledge of and skills in a full range of complex technical automated systems.  This class differs from the Senior Programmer Analyst in that the latter performs computer programming and program maintenance duties of considerable difficulty.  This class deals with the City’s large local/wide area networks with multiple servers and network segments.  It differs from the Enterprise Network Technician I and II in that incumbents of the latter perform work requiring a lesser level of skill, responsibility, and expertise with less supervisory requirements and are supervised by incumbents of this class.

  Training and Experience

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, computer technology or a related field, and three (3) years of experience in management analysis which includes enterprise/corporate operating systems analysis and development within the typical information technology users’ scope of operations (related experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement).

Licenses/Certificates

Posssession of a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or an equivalent professional industtry recognized certification.  Examples of equivalent certifications include but are not limited to :  Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Cisco Certification Design Professional (CCDP).
