ENTERPRISE NETWORK TECHNICIAN I (P/T) (1397)

CLASS PURPOSE

Under immediate supervision in the Information Technology Department, performs work of routine difficulty in configuring, installing, operating and maintaining the City’s large local area and wide area network and coordinating the provision of a variety of Citywide information systems data that may include the evaluation, planning, design and implementation of existing and new systems for multi-use, each having specific individual or competing requirements or integrated functions. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry level in the Enterprise Network Technician series and is responsible for the assisting in coordinating, configuring, installing and maintaining the City’s large local area and wide area network. The incumbent is a generalist, but is expected to be aware of and utilize expert technical resources such as those provided by the Information Technology Department, vendors, and other similar sources. 

This class differs from the Network Technician I in that the latter’s knowledge or skills in performs network associated functions on a department level. This class differs from the Programmer Analyst series in that the latter performs computer programming and program maintenance duties. This class differs from the Enterprise Network Technician II in that incumbents of the latter work more independently under less supervision.

Education

A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Technology, or a closely related field.

Experience

One year of experience in management analysis, which includes enterprise/corporate operating systems analysis and development within the typical information technology user’s scope of operations, including Web Page development.

Acceptable Substitutions

Additional years of directly related work experience may be substituted for up to a maximum of two years of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitute for the required experience.

Licenses/Certificates

As a condition of employment, an incumbent in this classification is required to be actively pursuing a Certified Network Administrator Certificate or similar pursuits for networks other than Novell Netware.
