MECHANICAL PARTS ASSISTANT (1531)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under immediate supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in the ordering, receiving, storing, and issuing of a variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment construction parts, accessories, and supplies. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   This class is the entry level class in the mechanical parts worker series. This series is distinguished from other storekeeping and stock clerk classes by the requirement for specialized knowledge of parts, assemblies, and repair procedures for automotive, construction, and fire equipment. An incumbent of this class is assigned to routine work in ordering, receiving, issuing, delivering and picking up of automotive and maintenance vehicle parts, equipment and supplies. This class is distinguished from the higher class of Mechanical Parts Worker in that the latter is assigned the overall responsibility for the efficient operation of the mechanical parts stores, and may also lead the former.

Training and Experience

   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth (8th) grade and six (6) months experience in either lubricating and servicing of automotive equipment or in the receiving, issuing, and storing of automotive parts, accessories and supplies.

Licenses/Certificates

   Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver's license.
