CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Schedule, assign, train and evaluate subordinates in the ordering, receipt, storage and issuance of automotive, industrial and heavy construction equipment parts, materials, accessories and supplies.
Maintain adequate inventories of automotive, industrial and heavy construction equipment parts, materials, accessories and supplies; supervise the taking of periodic physical inventories and assure that inventory records are reconciled with perpetual inventory records.
Maintain emergency repair parts for major components or major equipment of a specialty nature; research and order specialty repair parts; maintain a descriptive inventory file of specialty repair parts; order a variety of specialty replacement parts in anticipation of scheduled equipment rebuilding; submit timely orders to ensure continued availability of special order parts; assist vehicle maintenance supervisors in locating, ordering and receiving replacement parts with unusual specification and/or fabrication requirements.
Develop methods for the improvement of storage space utilization, including items requiring special handling and storage.
Maintain records and submits reports and recommendations relative to the acquisition and cost of an extensive repair parts and replacement components system; participate in conferences relative to scheduled maintenance planning and budget planning; keep equipment maintenance supervisors informed of excessive lead times in parts acquisitions.
Conduct safety inspections with subordinate staff.
Consult with City personnel, outside vendors and others in locating and ordering automotive parts and supplies.
Perform the duties of a Mechanical Parts Worker as necessary.

Knowledge of procurement sources of supplies, parts and equipment used in automotive and other equipment repair.
Knowledge of parts, supplies and equipment used in automotive, industrial and construction equipment.
Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to read and interpret catalogs, manuals, blueprints, charts, and specifications.
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
