POLICE SERGEANT (2216)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under direction, performs police work of moderate difficulty in preventing crime, investigating criminal offenses, or in supervising specific police unit programs. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   Incumbents report to a Police Lieutenant or higher ranking officer.

   Police Sergeant work is at a level of difficulty above Police Officer, and may also on occasion include responsibility for administrative planning and programming found in the class of Police Lieutenant.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

   Completion of two (2) years of college (60 semester units) and three (3) years of experience as a Police Officer with the City of San Jose.
