Licensing Requirements:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license or equivalent
Possession of current and valid Emergency Medical Technician
Certification
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
At least 18 years of age by written exam date
Graduation from High School or equivalent (G.E.D. or California
Proficiency Certificate)
Possession of a valid California driver’s license or equivalent
Possession of a current and valid “State of California Emergency
Medical Technician Certification or
Certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians,
Emergency Medical Technician – Basic.
Desirable Qualifications (likely to contribute to more successful job performance; can often be learned on the job):
Possession of current and valid State of California Emergency Medical
Technician Paramedic Certification.
Possession of a Bachelors (BS or BA) degree from an accredited
college or university
Possession of an Associates (AS or AA) degree from an accredited
college
Possession of a Fire Science/Fire Technology Certificate from an
accredited college
Completion of 30 semester units (or equivalent) from an accredited
college with at least 15 semester units (or equivalent) in Fire Science/Fire
Technology
Possession of California State Fire Marshall Firefighter II
Certification or equivalent
Possession of California State Fire Marshall Firefighter I
Certification or equivalent
Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Mandarin or Cantonese, as certified by the City of San Jose
