CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Patrols an assigned area of the Airport or surrounding designated property by foot or motor vehicle.
Maintains public order and provides for the safe and lawful transit of passengers and Airport users.
Controls and directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic; enforces local and state motor vehicle laws and traffic regulations; issues warnings and writes citations.
Performs day-to-day public relation services such as providing information and assistance to Airport users and tenants; establishes and maintains rapport with tenants.
Monitors Airport public parking facilities; enforces parking regulations; inspects vehicles and investigates suspicious objects, persons or vehicles.
Monitors Airport property, tenants and surrounding facilities; physically examines and tests doors and windows; investigates conditions hazardous to public safety and takes appropriate action; administers first aid in emergencies.
Maintains two-way radio contact with supervisor; responds to radio calls and other requests for assistance; investigates complaints or potential problem situations.
Makes arrests for violations of laws and ordinances; books and jails prisoners.
Serves as back-up law enforcement officer at security check points per federal regulations; serves as back up to San Jose Police as requested.
Writes reports; reads and interprets manuals and bulletins; maintains records and compiles statistical data.

Ability to read and understand laws, ordinances, procedures and instructions.

Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic legal procedures as related to the enforcement of laws, regulations and ordinances applicable at the Airport.
Knowledge of security principles and practices.
Knowledge of the principles of first aid.
Ability to prepare records and write reports of investigations.
Ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency and stressful situations.
