PARK RANGER FULL-TIME (2423)
CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Patrols and enforces park rules and regulations.
Prepares appropriate reports and may make court appearances.
Issues misdemeanor citations.
Responds to park visitor complaints; relates effectively to park visitors.
Performs rescue, search and fire suppression activities.
Administers first aid.
Performs traffic control activities.
Checks visitors into the park and assigns them to appropriate use areas.
Answers questions and explains park policies and regulations.
Conducts tours; explains natural and historical park features.
Arranges and builds displays at a park visitors center.
Develops and implements interpretive land vegetation and wildlife conservation programs; creates brochures.
Coordinates volunteer programs.
Collects and accounts for fees.
Operates light vehicles, radios, and other necessary equipment.
Provides lead direction to other personnel; may perform emergency and routine custodial maintenance tasks.
May carry enforcement equipment such as mace.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the general principles and practices of park operations.
Knowledge of principles of conservation.
Knowledge of nature and wildlife.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to use sound judgment under routine and stressful situations.
Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant and effective manner.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.
Ability to complete appropriate forms.
Ability to administer first aid.
Ability to develop and implement interpretive programs.

Knowledge of techniques and procedures of park regulations, rules and law enforcement.
Ability to compile and prepare reports.
Ability to lead and direct the activity of others.
Ability to train others in nature, wildlife and conservation principles.
