CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted by use of sandblaster, steam cleaner, sandpaper, steel wool, scrapers, soap and water, and pavement grinder.
Paints, varnishes, stains, and shellacs walls (interior and exterior), ceilings, desks, cabinets, moldings, and floors.
Uses brushes, spray guns, and other painting tools and implements.
Paints traffic signals, fire alarm poles, electroliers and various objects and equipment.
Mixes paints, varnishes, shellacs, enamels.
Cleans, stores, and keeps painting equipment and tools in good condition.
Erects and moves scaffolds, ladders and planking.
Operate pick-up truck, runway striper, and small striping equipment.
Lifts and moves furniture, and other objects.
Prepares requisition forms and orders supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of painting preparation procedures, and methods.
Knowledge of painting methods and techniques.
Knowledge of paint compounds and mixing techniques.
Knowledge of safety practices as applied to painting.
Knowledge of equipment and tools of the trade.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to lift heavy weights 20-100 pounds.

Knowledge of current trends in painting technology.
