SENIOR PAINTER (3126)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under direction, leads or supervises other painters and performs work of moderate difficulty in the preservation and beautification of public facilities. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
- Schedules, assigns, and reviews work performed by painters.
- Completes requisition forms, and work order forms.
- Delivers supplies and equipment to various work sites.
- Instructs subordinates in safe work habits.
- Determines appropriate paint or painting products to be used on each job.
- Insures that equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.
- Prepares surfaces to be painted by brush roller, spray gun, and other applicators.
- Mixes, blends, matches and applies paints, shellacs, varnishes, stains, to walls, ceilings, furniture, moldings, floors, and other surfaces.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents of this class provide lead direction or supervision to journey-level painters and other assigned employees. Incumbents of this class are responsible for the scheduling, assigning, and reviewing of work performed by journey-level painters.
This class differs from higher level classes in that incumbents in this class lead and perform as journey-level painters while providing lead direction. This class differs from that of journey-level painters in that the latter do not provide lead direction to other journey-level painters.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of safety practices as applied to painting.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, equivalent and techniques used in painting.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Competency Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to procure and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Ability to schedule, assign, and review work of skilled, semi-skilled, and other employees.
- Ability to set priorities for work completion.
- Ability to determine manpower necessary for work completion.
Education
Completion of high school, General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate.
Experience
Two (2) years experience as a journey-level painter.

Licenses/Certificates
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
