SENIOR CARPENTER (3134)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under direction, leads or supervises and performs skilled journey level
carpentry work of moderate difficulty. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any
one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover
all the duties which may be performed.)
- Determines appropriate materials and equipment to be used on each job.
- Schedules, assigns and reviews work performed by carpenters and other
employees.
- Completes work order and requisition forms.
- Procures, distributes and delivers materials and equipment to work sites.
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies.
- Ensures that tools and equipment are properly cleaned, maintained, stored
and secured.
- Performs skilled carpentry work in the construction, alteration,
maintenance and repair of City buildings, structures, furniture, equipment
and other projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents of this class provide lead direction or supervision to journey
level carpenters and other employees.
Incumbents of this class are responsible for the scheduling, assigning and
reviewing of work performed by journey level carpenters.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the carpentry
trade.
Knowledge of building codes pertaining to carpentry.
Knowledge of safety practices and precautions as applicable to carpentry.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, oral and written
instructions.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Ability to procure and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
Ability set priorities for work completion.
Ability to determine manpower necessary for work completion.
Ability to schedule, assign, and review work of skilled, unskilled and other
employees.
Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to two (2) years of
experience as a journey level carpenter.
Licenses/Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor
vehicle in the State of California.
