PLUMBER (3142)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs
skilled journey level plumbing work of moderate difficulty in the repair,
maintenance, and installation of plumbing systems. Performs related work as
required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS
(Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples
cover all the duties which may be performed.)
- Repairs and/or installs water
piping and taps water lines.
- Renews and replaces pipes,
valves, fittings, ball cocks and other fixtures. Cuts and threads pipes.
- Repairs and replaces water
supply, sewage, waste and drainage pipes.
- Cleans obstructions from drains
in water and sewer systems.
- Cares for plumbing tools.
- Maintains adequate working stock
of plumbing supplies.
- Completes work orders and
requisition forms.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey level Plumber
classification, and is the only classification in the plumbing field.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledges, Skills and
Abilities
- Knowledge of the standard tools,
methods, practices and materials of the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of plumbing codes and
ordinances.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety
precautions of the plumbing trade.
- Ability to effectively use plumbing
tools, materials and equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to work from sketches, oral
and written instructions.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and
Abilities
- Ability to schedule, assign and
review work of lower level staff.
- Knowledge of training and
supervisory principles and techniques.
Training And Experience
Any combination of training and
experience equivalent to successful completion of a recognized plumbing
apprenticeship program.
Licenses/Certificates
Possession of a valid California
drivers license.
