EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE MACHINIST (3174)
CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Fabricates, maintains, and repairs metal parts and machinery.
Machines cylinders, piston rods, shafts, bolts, bearings, and other parts.
Gauges work by use of precision tools.
Uses gas-welding and arc-welding equipment.
Repairs motors, generators, traffic signal parts, boiler parts, armatures, bushings, broken sweeper parts, and other similar objects.
Provides lead direction and training to other employees.
Operates lathes, drill presses, saws, mills, grinders, and similar equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools used in the machinist trade.
Knowledge of safety precautions to be taken in machinist work.
Skill in operating drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and other metal shaping apparatus.
Skill in using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read blueprints and follow written specifications, and sketches.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of precision machining computations and techniques.
Knowledge of training and supervision principles and techniques.
Knowledge of general City procedures for estimating cost and labor.
Skill in using gas welding equipment and performing arc-welding.
Ability to estimate material cost and labor.
Ability to perform machine work with a high degree of precision.
Ability to obtain a City driving permit.
