SENIOR CUSTODIAN (3213)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs custodial work of routine
difficulty and supervises custodians in the work of cleaning
public and private facilities. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not
include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the
duties which may be performed.)
- May supervise or provide lead direction to custodians.
- Sets up rooms for special events.
- Schedules, assigns, and reviews work performed by custodians.
- Trains custodians in proper cleaning methods.
- Completed requisition forms, work order forms, and vandalism
reports.
- Delivers supplies to work sites.
- Empties trash cans and ash trays.
- Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors.
- Vacuums, shampoos, and steam cleans carpets.
- Cleans doors, walls, windows, and mirrors.
- Moves and dusts furniture, equipment, and other objects.
- Cleans restrooms and replenishes restroom supplies.
- Turns out lights and locks and unlocks doors and windows.
- Uses cleaning equipment such as brooms, mops, dust cloths,
buffers, waxers, vacuum cleaners, self propelled floor scrubbers,
steam cleaners and shampoo machines; and ensure that all cleaning
equipment is maintained in good condition.
- Uses cleaning products such as detergents and chemicals.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS.
Incumbents in this class provide lead supervision to
custodians. This class differs from the higher class of custodial
Supervisor in that the latter has general responsibility for
custodial maintenance of major facility sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of cleaning methods.
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of safety practices in custodial work.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques.
- Ability to schedule work.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to express instructions in written and oral form.
- Ability to complete forms.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
Competency Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of cleaning product composition.
Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to
completion of high school or GED and two (2) years of increasing
responsibility as a custodian.
