PARK MAINTENANCE REPAIR WORKER I (3412)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled
park maintenance and repair work of routine difficulty. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Performs the maintenance, repair and renovation of irrigation system controllers, valves, pipes and related components.
Performs the maintenance of swimming pool and fountain systems, potable water systems and associated metering equipment, vacuum pumps, valves and controllers.
Performs the maintenance, repair and overhaul of two- and four- cycle engines, park maintenance machinery and equipment such as edgers, trimmer mowers, gang/rotary mowers, greens mowers, sprayer units, renovators, aerators, turf sweepers, chain saws and other equipment. Performs the maintenance and repair of playground and park hardware such as benches, tables, ball washers and barbeque units.
Operates arc welding and oxyacetylene equipment for cutting, brazing and repairing metal objects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class differs from the next lower class of Groundsworker in that
incumbents of that class are more concerned with grounds maintenance. This class differs from the next higher class of Park Maintenance Repair Worker II
in terms of responsibility, supervision and skill level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in preventive maintenance, repair renovation, and installation of irrigation systems, potable water systems, playground equipment and park hardware.
Knowledge of safety, maintenance and basic operations of swimming pools, fountain and associated pumps, metering devices, chemical control units and other equipment.
Knowledge of basic operation and repair procedures for two- and four-cycle engines and equipment used in park maintenance such as edgers, trimmer mowers, gang/rotary mowers, greens mowers, sprayer units, renovators, aerators, turf sweepers, chain saws and other equipment.
Knowledge of safety precautions necessary in this type of work.
Ability to use arc welding and oxyacetylene to cut, braze and repair metal objects.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Ability to diagnose and correct irrigation system problems to include timer valves, underground control valves and specialized watering pattern needs.
Ability to lead others in maintenance and repair work related to parks equipment.
Ability to keep simple records and prepare routine reports.
Training And Experience
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of
high school or possession of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three (3) years of experience in parks grounds and park
maintenance repair or related repair work.
Licenses/Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor
vehicle in the State of California.
As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a
valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
