PARK MAINTENANCE REPAIR WORKER II (3413)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, leads and performs varied semi-skilled and
skilled park maintenance work of moderate difficulty. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Leads and participates in installing, maintaining, repairing and renovating irrigation system controllers, valves, pipes and related components.
Leads and participates in maintaining swimming pool and fountain systems, potable water systems and associated metering equipment, valves and controllers.
Leads and participates in maintaining, trouble shooting, repairing and overhauling two- and four- cycle engines, park maintenance machinery and equipment such as edgers, trimmer mowers, gang/rotary mowers, greens mowers, sprayer units, renovators, aerifiers, turf sweepers, chain saws and other equipment.
Leads and participates in maintaining, repairing and fabricating playground equipment and park hardware such as benches, tables, ball washers and barbeque pits.
Operates arc and oxyacetylene welding equipment for cutting, brazing, and fabricating special parts and repairing metal objects.
May draw sketches and plans for assigned projects; estimates materials required, records time and materials used.
Trains assigned personnel in performing tasks associated with assignments.
Assumes responsibility for work area, crew, and public safety on assigned maintenance and repair projects.
Answers emergency road calls to make field repairs to City equipment and structures.
Orders parts and maintains parts inventory.
May fabricate parts.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class differs from that of Park Maintenance Repair Worker I in that
incumbents of the latter are responsible only for performing the duties involved in park maintenance while the incumbents of this class perform in a
lead capacity. This class differs from that of Maintenance Supervisor in that an incumbent of the latter are responsible only for performing the duties
involved in park maintenance repair work as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment required for preventive maintenance, repair renovation, and installation of irrigation systems, potable water systems, playground equipment and park hardware.
Knowledge of safety, maintenance and basic operations of swimming pools, fountain and associated pumps, metering devices, chemical control units and other equipment.
Knowledge of the operation and repair procedures of two- and four- cycle engines and equipment used in park maintenance such as edgers, trimmer mowers, gang/rotary mowers, greens mowers, sprayer units, renovators, aerators, turf sweepers, chain saws and other equipment including hydraulically operated equipment.
Knowledge of safety precautions necessary in this type of work.
Ability to lead employees in maintenance and repair work related to parks equipment.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to diagnose and correct irrigation system problems to include timer valves, underground control valves and specialized watering pattern heads.
Ability to use arc welding and oxyacetylene to cut, braze and fabricate special parts and repair metal objects.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Ability to draw sketches and plans for assigned projects, estimate materials required and record time and materials used.
Ability to operate mobile radio communications equipment.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to interpret manuals, make decisions about warrantees, order or fabricate parts.
Training And Experience
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of
high school or possession of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate and four (4) years of experience in parks, grounds and park
maintenance repair or related repair work.
Licenses/Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor
vehicle in the State of California.
As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a
valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
