AIRPORT OPERATIONS MANAGER (3526)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in managing, directing, planning and organizing all functions and responsibilities associated with the safe operation of the airport's Airside/Landside operations which includes all public/employee parking facilities including a six-level garage; ground transportation services; aircraft movement and non-movement areas; with oversight responsibility for coordination of emergency services, airport certification; commercial, corporate and general aviation airside activities; air terminal gate uses and supervision of all airside construction projects, including runways, taxiways and associated ramp/apron areas.  Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (The position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

Typical End Results Include:  The effective and responsible management, supervision and coordination of safe and secure airport airside/landside operations.  The airport's compliance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations applicable to airport certification that assures the safe and efficient movement of aircraft passengers.  Adequate, current and effective emergency planning and preparation procedures.  An effective, efficient and revenue-enhancing ground transportation system.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   An Airport Operations Manager is responsible for management of airside and/or landside functions and activities, reports directly to a Deputy Director of Aviation, sharing major responsibility for ensuring the effective management of the day-to-day operations of the airport.  This class differs from the lower class of Airport Operations Superintendent in that incumbents of the latter class have narrower responsibility areas for the various operations areas of the airport and receives supervision from the Airport Operations Manager.

Special Airport Requirement
      This Airport specific classification requires each candidate to satisfactorily complete a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 10-year employment history verification which may include a criminal history records check prior to being considered for a position in this class.

Training and Experience:
   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion of advanced college coursework from an accredited college or university in Aviation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field and six years (6) of increasingly responsible professional analytical and management experience, including three (3) years of recent airport management experience at the level of an Airport Operations Superintendent.
  
Possession of a valid State of California driver's license.
