DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF AVIATION (3547)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under administrative direction, plans, organizes and directs a major division of the Airport Department. Performs related work as required.

Typical End Results Include
   A well-trained, highly motivated staff; service and facilities that are provided and maintained for passengers, tenants and visitors at the San Jose International Airport through the application of sound administrative, financial, property, facility management, airport operations, communications, planning, engineering, and environmental compliance principles and practices.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   An incumbent in this classification is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the programs of a major division of the Airport Department. Incumbents report to the Assistant Director of Aviation.

Special Airport Requirement
   This Airport specific classification requires each candidate to satisfactorily complete a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 10-year employment history verification, which may include a criminal history records check prior to being considered for a position in this class.

Education
   A Bachelor’s Degree in Airport or Aviation Management, Airport Operations, Civil Engineering, Planning, Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field.

Experience
   Six (6) years of administrative experience including at least three (3) years of program development level responsibility in one or more of the following areas: airport development, airport operations, airport marketing and promotions, civil engineering, finance, or property management.

Acceptable Substitutions
   None.

License/Certificates
   Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California.
