PLANT GENERAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR (3615)

CLASS PURPOSE:
   Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in the planning, organizing, and directing of the Operations section of the Department of Water Pollution Control to ensure compliance with the requirements of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (The position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

Typical End Results Include: Effluent consistently meets State and Federal standards; efficient and effective maintenance programs to minimize process and equipment breakdowns; efficient schedule and utility of staff to minimize operation costs; a safety program that prevents or minimizes accidents; emergency procedures that protect equipment and structures from damage.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   The incumbent of this class is responsible for the effective use of the staff assigned to the Operations section at the Department of Water Pollution Control. An incumbent in this class supervises Plant Shift Supervisors, and is supervised by the Principal Sanitary Engineer.

Training and Experience
   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of high school and six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation of a waste water treatment plant or equivalent. Two (2) years of this experience must be at a level equivalent to Plant Shift Supervisor with the City of San Jose.
   Experience as a Senior Plant Operator or equivalent may be substituted on the basis of two years experience as a Senior Plant Operator for each year of experience as a Plant Shift Supervisor.

Licenses/Certificates
   Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) V Operator Certificate.
   Possession of a valid California driver's license.
