PLANT ASSISTANT GENERAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR (3617)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general direction, performs work of moderate difficulty by providing administrative support to the Plant General Operations Supervisor in planning, organizing and managing the activities of the Operations Section of the Water Pollution Control Division of the Environmental Services Department. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (The position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed).

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   The incumbent of this class is responsible for administrative duties associated with the Plant General Operations Supervisor's office and reports directly to the General Operations Supervisor. An incumbent may act as the General Operations Supervisor or Plant Shift Supervisor in their absence. This class differs from the lower class of Plant Shift Supervisor in that incumbents of the latter are responsible for the activities of a work shift and supervise Senior Plant Operators and Plant Operators.

Typical End Results Include: The overall administrative programs of the Plant General Operations Supervisor's office are functioning effectively: Weekly staffing schedules are produced in a timely manner; Performance Evaluations are completed on time; Operator on-the-job training programs are provided; Operations personnel receive appropriate safety training; An adequate number of "tailgate" safety sessions are held; Construction drawings are properly reviewed in the time frame allotted; Shutdowns and power switches are properly coordinated; Continual improvement efforts are ongoing.

Training and Experience
   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant or equivalent. Two (2) years of this experience must be at a level equivalent to Plant Shift Supervisor with the City of San Jose.
   Experience as a Senior Plant Operator or equivalent may be substituted on the basis of two years experience as a Senior Plant Operator for each year of experience as a Plant Shift Supervisor.

Licenses/Certificates
   Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Grade IV Operator Certificate. A Grade V California SWRCB Operator Certificate must be obtained within two years of appointment.
   Possession of a valid State of California Class C Drivers License.
