SENIOR PLANT MECHANIC (3623)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, provides lead direction, training, and performs skilled journey level work of moderate difficulty in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of varied Water Pollution Control Plant equipment. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in this class report to a Plant Mechanical Supervisor and provide lead direction to incumbents in the classes of Plant Mechanic and Plant Attendant. This class represents the third level in the Wastewater Plant Mechanical Maintenance series. It differs from the next higher level class of Plant Mechanical Supervisor in responsibility and level of supervision exercised. Incumbents differ from the next lower class in terms of lead direction responsibilities.

Education
Successful completion of high school, General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate.
Experience
Four (4) years of experience as a journey level mechanic equivalent to a Plant Mechanic with the City of San Jose, including background in hydraulics, internal combustion engines and sewage treatment plant equipment or closely related equipment.
Acceptable Substitutions
None.
Licenses/Certificate
As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
