CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (3774)

 

CLASS PURPOSE

Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in supervising a group of engineering, technical, and/or inspection personnel in municipal public works construction; public utility construction and location; and/or Quality Control/Assurance for all phases of Public Works programs. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

 

Typical End Results Include: Timely and complete preparation of section's annual budget. Adequate project scoping and/or definition accomplished through uniform implementation of quality control procedures in all phases of public works construction projects. Effective implementation of utility undergrounding projects, and timely and proper identification or location of City underground facilities;successful conformance and compliance of projects to City permits and/or project plans and specifications relative to traffic safety requirements in construction zones.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the fourth level class of the four level construction inspection series, and is the final full supervising level. Incumbents perform a variety of technical and managerial work of considerable difficulty, and supervise lower level professional and/or technical staff in the investigation, quality control, quality assurance, construction, and/or inspection of engineering projects under general direction of a Principal Engineer. Incumbents of this class normally serve as a head of a section of a division. This class differs from the next lower class of Principal Construction Inspector in that incumbents of the latter perform construction inspection work of considerable difficulty, under direction, and are usually only responsible for a complete project or program.

Training And Experience

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate Degree in Engineering, Science, Business or Public Administration and eight (8) years of increasingly responsible sub-professional engineering/construction inspection work, five (5) years of which must have been in field construction inspection/project administration of which two (2) years must have been at the level of Principal Construction Inspector.

License/Certificates

Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a vehicle in the State of California.
