CLASS SUMMARY:
   Under direction, markets and promotes City programs, park services, facilities and departments.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level class in the Marketing & Public Outreach Representative three level series, responsible for carrying out specific tasks within a project or campaign. This class differs from that of Marketing & Public Outreach Representative II in that the incumbents of the later class are at the full journey-level, and have general responsibility for design, coordination, and execution of specific projects or the day-to-day activities of established campaigns, and may lead incumbents of the Marketing & Public Outreach Representative I class.

QUALIFICATIONS

(These qualifications are typically required. An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.)

Education and Experience
   A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in advertising, marketing, public relations, or a closely related field with no minimum experience required.

Licensing Requirements
   Valid California Driver’s License may be required.

Participates in the development of marketing and promotion program and project goals and objectives, implement plans, and assists in the management of related budgets.

   Develops, writes, edits, and produces promotional materials to create public awareness of programs; may include development and maintenance of websites or determining content for website.

   Responds orally and in writing to inquires and provides information for the public on services, facilities and programs.

   Assists in organizing the logistics for participation in or sponsorship of special events, seminars, trade shows or missions and promotions.

  Conducts fund-raising/development projects to enhance or expand City services and programs.

   Coordinates volunteer services to train docents and others involved in community relations programs.

   Provides creative writing and other technical assistance for a variety of collateral materials including news releases, brochures, and Audio/Video scripts; designs and produces such materials using desktop publishing techniques.

   Assists in developing and conducting public opinion surveys and market analyses to identify existing and potential markets and target audiences.

  Participates in procuring services and products by consultant agreements and purchase requisitions; check service and products supplied for accuracy and timelines.

   Establishes and maintains working relationships with the media, public, private agencies and organizations throughout all aspects of the marketing and public information program.
