CLASS SUMMARY:
Evaluates noise measurement data and assures operations to allow
maximum utilization of the airport facilities while remaining within the
confines of the noise requirements. May direct staff in the operation of the
Airport Sound Monitoring System to provide noise data in compliance with State
and other applicable noise laws. May administer the Curfew Monitoring Program or
performs other similar duties related to the Airport’s impact on the sound
environment of San Jose and surrounding communities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: (Level in the series and how distinguished from

The incumbent of the Senior Noise Specialist class reports to
the Airport Noise Abatement Manager and supervises Airport Noise Specialists.
The class differs from the Airport Noise Abatement Manager’s class based on the
responsibilities for overall Program Management at the higher level versus
specialization at the Senior Noise Specialist level. This class is further
differentiated from the Airport Noise Specialist class by virtue of the Senior
Noise Specialist’s supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to
satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.)
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion
of undergraduate course work from an accredited college or university with a
major in air transportation, airport management or a related field and one (1)
year of experience in sound measurement, noise abatement or other directly
comparable experience in the aviation industry.
Licensing Requirements:
This Airport specific classification requires each candidate to satisfactorily
complete a background check that will include a criminal history records check
prior to being considered for a position in this class.

assigned to the Sound Monitoring Program: Supervises and operates computer terminals as they relate to the Airport Sound Monitoring Systems which involves program inputs to accomplish selective noise measurement data. |

| 2. | Analyzes and makes comparative studies of the noise energy impacted by various types of aircrafts, as it relates to atmospheric conditions, weather conditions, flight weight, and associated variables that have to do with noise levels produced by a variety of various aircrafts at a given point in time. | DAILY |
