SENIOR RECREATION LEADER-TEACHER (PT) (6113)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in directing playground or indoor recreational activities at an assigned school site. Performs related work as required.

 TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

• Develops a varied program of recreation activities for a variety of age groups at a designated school.
• Cooperates with local community in determining programs and in making facilities available for various activities.
• Supervises teen clubs in programs and activities.
• Provides instruction and coaching to interested groups.
• Instructs staff in fundamentals of particular recreation activities such as games, sports, dancing, music, dramatics, simple recreation, art and handicraft work.
• Arranges tournaments and team competition.
• Preserves order and discipline among participants of activities.
• Watches for safety of participants and spectators.
• Officiates sports and games.
• Renders first aid in case of injury.
• Keeps records and make reports.

 DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   Incumbents of this class routinely direct a variety of recreational activities at a particular school site.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the rules, equipment, and organizational requirements of a variety of recreational activities.
• Ability to routinely supervise recreation programs and activities.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Competency Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles and trends of recreation.
• Knowledge of the principles of supervision.
• Ability to direct the activities of others.
• Ability to keep records and make reports.

Education
   None required.

Experience
   None required.

Licenses/Certificates
   Possession of a valid State of California Teaching Credential or currently employed with a school district; AND possession of authorization from the school principal to access the school facilities to lead on-site recreation programs.
   As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
