DIRECTOR OF CONVENTIONS, ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT (U) (6344)

CLASS PURPOSE
Under general direction, an incumbent performs work of unusual difficulty planning and directing all operations and functions of the Department of Conventions, Arts & Entertainment. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

Typical End Results Include: The entertainment and cultural needs of the community are met; the convention and cultural center is developed into a major convention and tradeshow activity center. The use of existing facilities is increased; successful promotional campaigns are developed; qualified and competent staff are provided; a cost effective operation is maintained; effective operating procedures are developed; the impact on the City's economy from the Department's activity is maximized.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The incumbent of this single position class provides overall guidance and direction to all operations and activities associated with the Conventions, Arts & Entertainment Department. Supervision is exercised over subordinate managerial staff who execute directives. Incumbent works with a high degree of independent judgment. Direction is received from the City Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Competency Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to meet and deal successfully with the Arts and Parks and Recreation Commissions, professional meeting planners, show managers, booking agents, performing and visual artists, community organizations, local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and non-profit groups, and the public.

Training And Experience
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration or related field, and ten (10) years of business managerial experience, including at least four (4) years of management experience at a large multi-purpose cultural, convention or entertainment complex, including major arts programs and maintenance of large regional parks.
