DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF CONVENTION, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
(Classified - 6345) and (Unclassified - 6346)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under administrative direction, performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, organizing, and directing the maintenance and on-going operations of a major division of the Conventions, Arts and Entertainment Department. Performs related work as required.

Typical End Results include: The physical facilities of the division and department are maintained in a clean, safe and useable condition; equipment and supplies needed for specific events are delivered or installed on time and in useable and safe condition; goods and services provided by outside vendors meet established criteria for quality, price and timeliness; accurate and timely performance of financial and management functions ensure efficient operations, economically sound business practices and cost effectiveness; ensure effective and open communication both within the City as well as with other agencies and the general public; develop a comprehensive Arts and Downtown Promtions Program that provides community support for the cultural enrichment and economic development of the City.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   The incumbents of this class work with a high degree of independence in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day financial, budget, human resource, and computer systems operations for a major division of the Department of Conventions, Arts and Entertainment. An incumbent in this class reports directly to the Director of Convention, Arts and Entertainment. The class differs from the higher position of Director in that the higher class plans and directs the broader functioning of the department and is less intimately associated with operational and programmatic activities of the various divisions.

Training and Experience
   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, marketing, arts administration, or closely related field, and seven (7) years of managerial/administrative experience including at least three (3) years of progressively responsible management experience at a large multi-purpose cultural, convention or entertainment facility.
