PARKS FACILITIES SUPERVISOR (7122)
CLASS PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the
supervision of staff, park operations protection and
maintenance at
a major
visitor attraction facility or other facility.
Performs related work as
required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS: (Any one position may not include all the
duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
- Supervises, trains and evaluates subordinate staff and their work.
- Gathers and compiles routine statistical data.
- Prepares and reviews records, forms, logs, and reports.
- Provides budget input for personnel, equipment, supplies, and related
items.
- Estimates equipment, material, manpower and time necessary for work
completion; set priorities.
- Responsible for revenue implementing procedures.
- Supervises public contact, liaison work and preparation and presentation
of programs related to park services to civic groups and park visitors.
- Ensures that public facilities and structures are maintained in a clean,
safe condition.
- Conserves and preserves natural open space for public enjoyment.
- Recommends improvements and inspects projects to maintain and restore
natural resources in City parks and undeveloped City park lands.
- Supervises the scheduling of areas within the facilities or that are a
part of the facility.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises comprehensive recreation activities for
all age groups at a major visitor attraction.
- Provides information regarding programs and social services available
through all forms of media.
- Develops, reviews and/or supervises contracts for development, operations,
projects or sponsorships.
- Responsible for administration of revenue generating activities including
fee collections, revenue projections and revenue analysis.
- May develop proposals for methods to enhance the facility or operation
with non-traditional funding sources or alternative manpower
resources.
- Responsible for equipment and inventory control.
TYPICAL END RESULTS INCLUDE: Insuring the proper maintenance and
operation of City Parks. Supervising interpretive
and
education
programs for
City park
users. Insuring safe, secure parks; maintaining and conserving natural
features and wild life in City
parks and coordinating emergency
services
within parks such as search and rescue and fire suppression. Provides for
comprehensive
recreational programs at a major visitor attraction facility or
other facility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the general principles and practices of park operations.
- Knowledge of techniques and procedures of regulation, rules and park laws
enforcement.
- Knowledge of safety rules in using herbicides, insecticides and other
chemicals.
- Ability to schedule and arrange for security coverage of parks and park
areas.
- Ability to deal with the public in an effective manner.
- Ability to compile records and prepare reports.
- Ability to coordinate manpower effectively in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to provide a variety of recreation programs.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations.
- Knowledge of conservation principles.
- Knowledge of revenue accounting proceeding.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles of supervision.
- Knowledge of budget preparation methods and techniques.
- Ability to study policy and make recommendations for change.
- Ability to study organization and make recommendations for improvements.
- Knowledge of contract elements and administration.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful
completion of two (2) years of undergraduate course work from an accredited
college with emphasis in Park Management, Park Operations,
Natural or
Environmental Science, Recreation, and four
(4) years increasingly
responsible experience including two (2) years in a lead capacity in the maintenance and
operations of a park or
administering comprehensive recreation programs or
work similar to that performed by a Sr. Park Ranger with the City of San
Jose.
