Field Trips
Living Wetlands
Take your students on a field trip to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Environmental Education Center in Alviso (EEC) through the Living Wetlands program. Through classroom presentations, teacher-led activities and a field trip to the EEC, students explore the concepts of water use, wastewater treatment, habitat preservation, watershed stewardship, and recycled water. Curriculum is aligned to California content standards.

Cost & Reservations
The Living Wetlands fieldtrip is free to teachers of grades five through 12 in schools located in San José, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Cupertino, Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, or Monte Sereno.

Can't make it to the EEC? Contact EEC staff to discuss a presentation in your classroom or meeting place at (408) 262-5513 ext.104. Reservations are on a first-come basis and fill up quickly.

Recycling Center Field Trips
Every week, your recyclables get picked up with your garbage. But while garbage is taken to a landfill, recyclables have a very different destination – a Materials Recovery Facility. Do you want to know how these recyclables are separated so they can then be made into new products?

Take a tour of a Materials Recovery Facility. Watch and learn how paper, plastic, glass and other recyclables are sorted and processed before becoming new products like park benches, fleece clothing, toys, and much more.

Call one of the following San José garbage and recycling haulers to schedule a tour:
