Code Enforcement Division
The Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP) code enforcement division is mandated to conduct annual fire and life safety inspections for all new and existing buildings, structures and portions thereof within the City of San José. These state mandated inspections include, but are not limited to, buildings used for public assembly, educational purposes, institutional facilities, multi-family residential dwellings, and high rise structures.  

"The San José Fire Code prescribes regulations consistent with nationally recognized good practice for the safeguarding to a reasonable degree of life and property from the hazards of fire explosion, and dangerous conditions arising from the storage, handling, and use of hazardous materials and devices, and from conditions hazardous to life or property in the use or occupancy of buildings or premises and provisions to assist emergency response personnel."
