Sewer Problems
The City of San José’s Department of Transportation maintains the sanitary sewer system located within the City streets. Our crews quickly respond to sewer blockages and spills 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you suspect that there might be a sewer spill or smell a bad odor, please call us immediately at (408) 794-1900

Sanitary Sewer or Storm Drain
The sanitary sewer transports waste water from residences (e.g., sinks, toilets, and baths) and businesses to the City's San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility where it is treated physically and biologically before being reused as reclaimed water or discharged into the Bay watershed.

The
storm system transports untreated storm runoff into a nearby creek or other waterway, Stormwater deposited into a creek will flow into the San Francisco Bay without being treated. Because of this lack of treatment, it is of critical importance that the City be notified as soon as possible should you suspect any chemical or sanitary sewer spillage into the storm system.
